This transformative initiative is driven by adolescent girls from Nigeria and various African countries, united in their determination to eradicate Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and child marriage, two deeply rooted issues that have plagued our society for far too long.
The WhatsApp group consists of one hundred and forty four members of the GATE movement across Ekiti, Kaduna, Kano, Kwara , Osun and Oyo states who are active on social media.
Members of the GATE Movement have been empowered in the just concluded adolescent bootcamp to become champions ending Female Genital Mutilation and other harmful practices in their community.
At the hangout, the girls had an interactive session on Overcoming Peer Pressure , an important life skills for adolescents. They were also reminded of their responsibility and roles as champions who stand with girls at risk of FGM and other harmful practices and support survivors, creating a safe space for their voices to be heard.
The hangout lasted for 2:30mins. The girls also had some fun side attractions, such as the fastest fingers and gifts, which made the hangout fun and worthwhile.
